Fifth Third Bank West Charlotte

When community participates in the design process, a mural feels immediately iconic. This is the outcome of listening to the voices of our youth.

We brought art students from a local high school to the table with our chosen mural artist, Kalin Devone, to connect the West End location of Fifth Third Bank to the community through art.

We partnered with the art department to create a curriculum for two of their honors art classes that taught the students about the steps of creating murals. Through a series of in-class workshops with the West Charlotte High School students, Kalin collected stories, drawings, concepts, and even signatures from each of the students to inform her design for this intricate and layered mural. The students learned about the design process, showing them how to collect, curate, and reach a final design and eventually visited Kalin on-site to help paint portions of the mural. The result is a community effort that has expansive ownership from corporate to community.
